Who we are
Arobanam Children Fund was born to help one single home namely Arobanam Boys Home. This home had 38 children and due to lack of funding, was about to close down in 1992. Some of us here in London decided this cannot be allowed to happen. We got together and collected some money (about £1200) and helped Fr. James Pathinathan to carry on looking after these parentless children, while we all pondered over what to do next.
Just collecting a sum of money and sending it and may be have a dinner/dance or a variety programme and sending the profits, is not the way forward. We thought there has to be a better way. Then we formed the committee and named the organisation as Arobanam Children Fund in 1995 and obtained the charity status in March 1999.
What we do
The 19-year civil war has had devastating effects on the population in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Thus Arobanam Children Fund was born 10 years ago to provide both urgent humanitarian relief and long-term rehabilitation for children who have lost one or both parents.
For whatever reason these children in their tender age have nowhere to go, now they need our protection and help. If we do nothing, they will have to beg and forge an existence in the gutters of villages, town centres or cities and eventually becoming juvenile delinquents.
Due to these reasons currently we provide support to these children by the following methods: -
Sponsorship scheme
Foster Care scheme, a new venture being introduced as a pilot scheme in Mannar & Cheddikulam
TECH
(The Economic Consultancy House) projects.
